Like so many places across the country, here in Boston, we must acknowledge the violence being visited upon exemplary citizens doing heroic work to make things better for everyone in our very own communities and society in general.
In this instance, the violence manifests in the forms of misrepresentation, intimidation, deliberately divisive calls for intolerance of tolerance. What will happen to these good, brave, people in the next instance?
I wonder and worry about the impact of this terrible surge of hatred, deceit, and violence on everyone but especially on young people. Are our ways of teaching and caring for them providing the intellectual, social-emotional, and ethical knowledge and skills they need to understand what's going on, what's going wrong, and what they can do to stay safe and sane?
